You know what the first hour of the morning costs you.
The stiffness before your legs agree to work.
The slow roll out of bed.
The pause at the edge of the mattress where you wait... for your back to let you stand up.
Then the negotiation starts.
Can I bend to put my socks on...
can I stand at the counter long enough to make tea...
can I get in the car without bracing.
By the time the first hour is over, you have already spent your best energy managing your back.
The worst part is not the pain.
The worst part is that you have done everything right.
You took the tablets. You did the exercises. You went to physio. You bought the TENS machine. You rubbed the gel in.
It got better...
Then you sat in the car too long. Or stood at the sink. Or picked something up without thinking.
And it came back.
Feel better... do a normal thing... wake up worse.
